MLS All-Star Rosters Announced Ahead of 2025 Edition

In the 30th edition of the MLS All-Star Fixture, the best players in Major League Soccer will take on the best players from Mexico’s top league, Liga MX, in what promises to be a fun and competitive occasion between both teams.

The game will take place in Austin, Texas for the first time at the stadium of MLS side Austin FC, Q2 Stadium. When these two sides met in Columbus, Ohio last year, it was Liga MX All Stars who ran out 4-1 winners.

This year’s game is slightly later than previous years as a result of the Club World Cup, with the game scheduled for the 24th July.

Voting Process

Voting for the MLS All-Star squad is complicated, but it allows selections to come from several areas, including coaches, fans and players.

Of the 26 players selected for the event, 12 are chosen by the team’s head coach, who this year is Austin FC’s Nico Estevez.

There are two further automatic spots, chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

The remaining 12 slots are subject to votes. Four players are selected by player voting, four by media voting and four by fan voting. This means that the likes of Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba get the popular vote to enter the game, but there's also room for players who aren't as well known.

To qualify for the voting ballots, players must have appeared in at least 50% of matches up to Matchday 13, when the ballots open. Those who aren't eligible for the voting ballot can still be chosen as a coach or commissioner pick.

Those who are selected are assigned one of seven positions; goalkeeper, left-back, right-back, centre-back, defensive midfield, attacking midfield or forward. MLS reviewed player metrics from the 2025 season so far to categorise players into their positions.
